About DashConvert

A privacy-first suite of PDF, image, video and audio tools, built and maintained by one person out of Ontario, Canada.

Who builds this

Shan
Software Engineer ยท M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering ยท Ontario, Canada

I'm Shan - I hold a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering and now work as a Software Engineer. DashConvert is a personal project I run from Ontario, Canada, built on the belief that file conversion should be fast, private, and free - no sign-up, no upload to a stranger's server, no ads inside the tools.

My engineering background makes me obsessive about the workflow around a task - the click paths, the drag-and-drop rhythm, the moment when a tool actually saves time versus the moment it wastes it. Every tool on DashConvert is built for the second case.

Why another PDF-tools site

Every existing online PDF and image converter does roughly the same thing - so why another one? Because most of them wrap the tools in aggressive ads and cookie prompts, upload your files to their servers, watermark the output, or gate features behind a signup. The tools here don't.

Everything on DashConvert runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly and native browser APIs - pdf-lib, pdf.js, canvas, WebCodecs, and (for video and audio) FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device. You can drop a confidential contract or a personal photo into a tool with the same confidence you'd have opening it locally.

The performance benefit is real too. There's no upload wait, no queue on a shared server, no round-trip. Big files convert as fast as your CPU can process them, and you can work offline once the page has loaded.

How the content is written

Every tool page and blog post on DashConvert is written from first-hand engineering experience - file formats I've had to wrestle with, conversions I built for myself first and then packaged for others. There's no AI-generated filler.

When a post references a spec (PDF 1.7, PNG, JPEG, HEIC, MP4/H.264), it links to the primary source so you can verify. Browser support and library versions that change are dated so you can tell whether the information is still current.

If you spot something wrong - a broken tool, a file that won't convert, a claim that doesn't match your experience - email me at 712studiogames@gmail.com. Corrections ship fast.

Where the site lives

DashConvert is operated from Ontario, Canada, and served worldwide via Cloudflare's edge network. There is no backend server for the tools themselves - every page is static HTML plus JavaScript and WebAssembly that executes in your browser.
